May 15, 2012 (Tues)
Nuts-Cheese-and Airplanes

On this trip we will travel to San Joaquin Valley and visit Stewart & Jasper Orchards. The founders, Roman Stewart and Lee Jasper planted the first of many California almond orchards in the mid-50s. From a modest beginning they gradually expanded and became an integrated operation involving thousands of acres-a leader in hulling, shelling, processing and marketing almonds. We will visit, sample, and shop in their company Store in Newman, Ca. From there we continue on to Hilmar, Ca. to tour, sample, shop and have a Buffet Lunch at one of the world's largest single-site Cheese Manufacturing Facilities. Then on to Atwater ,Ca. and the Castle Air Museum. "Nose gunner to pilot---bandits at 12 o'clock high." There is something awesome and mystical about the aircraft flown by the brave pilots and crews of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. These aircraft are a part of America's heritage. A group of dedicated enthusiasts formed the Castle Air Museum Foundation, Inc. to have a Museum in which faithfully restored historic aircraft could be exhibited for public enjoyment.
