Crossing the Plains
The original of this monumental Andrew P. Hill oil painting hangs in the Visitor's Center in Old Town Sacramento.
This is a study painting, an original oil on canvas, is property of the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County.
You may see it during your next visit to the Paulson House at History Park in San Jose.
The painting entitled "Crossing the Plains" was one of the most notable of Mr. Hill's paintings.
It was purchased by subscription and it was a memorable event on April 23, 1921, when this fine
painting was presented to the people of California.
Hill, a member of our Pioneers, was one of
the founders of the Sempervirens Society
and started the save the Redwoods movement.
AP Hill High School is named for him. Ask your docent for more information on Hill.
