FIRST PLACE, ELIZABETH BARRATT

"TWO COUSINS FROM CHINA AND GILROY'S EARLY SEED INDUSTRY"

A very good story about two Chinese Cousins and their contributions to the early seed industry
in South County. Elizabeth and her family have had a long relationship with the Wong family.
Dr. Don Cheu who will be her guest at the luncheon is a descendent of the Wong's and he and
Elizabeth carry on the family friendship.

This is Elizabeth's second win, but not as a First Place Award.

SECOND PLACE, SHANNON CLARK



"JAMES ALEXANDER FORBES, THE MISCHIEF-MAKING RENAISSANCE MAN"

A story about the life of James Forbes who among many other things started Forbes Mill.
Shannon lives in Palo Alto and is a student at UCLA. She recently
wrote the book about the Alameda that the association used as a fund raiser,
bring your copy and she will probably be happy to sign it.

Leonard McKay suggested she write an essay for our contest.
